Sacrament
Confirmation
Confirmation is the sacrament when we become "Soldiers of Christ", an old way that the Sacrament used to be referenced. However, the Confirmandi are now sent out as Apostles to bring the Good News to our world. Since Baptism, they have been educated, nurtured, guided to be able to come to this moment in Confirmation to say, "I am ready." They renew the Baptismal promises made for them at their Baptism. Now they do so on their own. They are then sealed with the Oil of Chrism, the Christ oil, that seals them with Jesus Christ. This oil is a sign of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit who now comes down upon them and seals them with the gifts of wisdom, knowledge, understanding, fortitude, counsel, piety and awe of the Lord. They are now fully initiated into our faith and ready to be fully engaged into the life of the Church and the life of Jesus Christ.
NOTE: The Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation for Adults bring God to the person in the same way as if for a child. The same symbols are used. The invoking the Holy Spirit is key to both sacraments. However, these two sacraments for Adults are part of the R.C.I.A. process so the person seeking the sacrament would join the Sunday sessions.
