Sacrament
Reconciliation
"For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to be its judge, but to be its savior." (John 3:16-17)
Do you know the Prodigal Son story out of Luke 15? If you know that, you know what the Sacrament of Reconciliation is all about. Sometimes it is called "Confession" or "Penance," but whatever way it is called, it's all about God's desire for us to know we are forgiven. In fact, God wants to forgive us more than maybe even we want to be forgiven. God does not ever move away from us. We move away from God, but God relentlessly pursues us. God wants us to be free of guilt, free of wounds and scars. "Come to me all you who are burdened and I will give you rest." (Matt 11:28)
This is an amazing Sacrament way under utilized by the People of God. This Sacrament is a free gift when we allow ourselves to return home to the Father (and we bump right into him) to be hugged and welcomed home. This Sacrament can be celebrated individually at regular scheduled time on Saturday, or even better yet, make an appointment. Give yourself this free gift.
Twice a year we gather as a Community for a Reconciliation Service. Same graces flow; same gifts given. We just do it as a group and celebrate the freedom we all share together. These are held during the Seasons of Advent in preparation for Christmas and Lent in preparation for Easter.
